It turns out jump roping isn’t as hard as I thought it was.
(This isn’t me.)

About a year ago, I was talking to David Robbins, a personal trainer and a friend, about how I’d always wanted to learn to jump rope and that I just seemed to stink at it. I saw it as a circumstance I couldn’t do anything about. He didn’t see it that way and recommended that I try the Crossrope fitness jumprope system. I’m so glad I took his advice. This jump rope set has become one of my favorite things.

The Get Lean set comes with a set of handles and a 1/2-pound and 1/4-pound ropes.

How does it work?

To find the set that will work best for you and your goals, you go to the Crossrope website and take a quiz about what you’re trying to accomplish and some facts such as your height. Then they recommend which set of handles and ropes will work best for you. The ropes click in and out of the handles and the purchase includes a free version of their app as well as a complimentary membership for a limited time. (I can’t remember how long.) Even the lite version of the app has a lot of fun workouts and videos that teach you different jump roping moves. They have a friendly facebook community that’s worth looking into.

Here’s a link to the quiz I mentioned

The site has jump rope mats for sale so that you don’t tear up your ropes . I’ve been okay using an old yoga mat and I’ve heard about other people using inexpensive interlocking rubber matting.

Jump roping is an incredibly efficient form of exercise. You can get your heart rate up for sure and the weighted ropes add a strength component. David recommends doing dumbbell or bodyweight exercises during breaks from jumping to make it even more powerful. I’ve tried it and it’s quite the workout. You also don’t need a whole lot of room. Whether or not you decide to check out the Crossrope system, I hope you’ll consider adding jump roping to your routine.
