It’s not unusual for people who come to the foam roller class I teach to tell me that they have a foam roller and don’t know how to use it. That’s pretty easy to take care of here, because I have two great YouTubes to recommend to you.
The videos are by my friend, Paul Smith. Paul was one of the instructors in my first yoga teacher training. He has a master’s degree in kinesiology and is a 500 hour RYT, an IAYT yoga therapist, an ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist and an ACE Health & Wellness Coach and functional training specialist. From all this you can gather that he’s well-trained and experienced. He’s also a good teacher. Here are the links to his videos:
A key thing to do with your foam roller is to store it in a place where you’re going to use it. For example, if you watch TV have it near the TV. A friend of mine has a wall rack in her home gym where she stores her foam rollers. Her foam rollers are handy before and after she finishes her workouts. To see a picture of it, check out a previous post, Sometimes You Need Rest More Than You Need Exercise:

Most of us if not all of us can benefit from the use of a foam roller. If you already have a foam roller practice and have a favorite exercise, I’d love to hear about it.
