Some advice on keeping the gut microbiome healthy that I’m reading a lot is to eat a wide variety of plant-based foods, 30-40 different plants a week. Variety can be as simple as eating different colors of the same vegetables. My grocery store has packs of different colored varieties of carrots that I like to buy in keeping with this advice. Herbs and spices can add to the plant count too, for example adding nutmeg or cinnamon (or both) to your oatmeal. I don’t have the energy to actually count and I try to keep plant variety in mind as I assemble my meals. It seems like a simple way to increase the chances of staying healthy.
