Aqua Workout

The width of the blade across the top of these bells determines how much you drag you experience. If you look closely you can see a difference between the blue ones (widest) and the green ones (narrowest.) These are made by Aqua Logix

This was new and fun

After I taught my yoga classes today, I went to an aqua class taught by my friend, David. I was expecting it to be challenging. I knew it would be fun. I wasn’t expecting it to be as much fun as it was. It’s been a long time since I’ve taken any kind of water class and I had forgotten how much the buoyancy of the water helps you. It had also been a long time since I’d been in a group class that I wasn’t leading. It’s fun to exercise in a group without being responsible for what happens next.

The bells we were using create something called drag resistance. The idea is that you can work a muscle group equally and smoothly in all directions. It felt different than the type of resistance you experience lifting weights or using resistance bands. David told me after the class that professional baseball and hockey teams use this type of training in their off season.
