Cold swim

The shift from crazy hot to moderately cool temperatures in Central Texas seems fast to me. Take me swimmin’ anyway. I can handle it, I thought.

A few weeks ago, when I got under the outdoor shower at the neighborhood pool the water was way hot. When we went yesterday I hoped it would be warm again. Nope. Then I stalled for a while by trying to figure out whether it would be easier to get in in the deep end or the shallow end. I walked from one end of the pool to the other a few times, trying not to step on all the pesky acorns on the deck. Then I finally admitted to myself that it wasn’t going to make much difference and got in. The initial shock of the cold water made me swim faster than I normally do for about half a length before I settled into a good rhythm. By the end of the swim I was cold again. It felt great to take a hot shower and put on sweat pants.
