When I’d only be doing yoga a few years, I went to a class where I was given this instruction for Warrior I: “You know, mmmmmmmm.” I didn’t know what that was supposed to mean, and when I thought about that instruction, I was critical of the teacher. I was critical of her until yesterday, when I was trying to explain the way I felt about strength training to a friend.
“My back feels really good, right here,” I said, pointing to a part of my back she couldn’t see, because she was sitting in front of me. You know, mmmm.
What I was really talking about, and I think the yoga teacher from a long time ago was trying to express, was physical confidence. There’s a lot of value in knowing that your body can get you from point A to point B, lift a heavy piece of luggage over your head and get heavy stuff from your car to the house. When you’re confident in your physical abilities, it makes a lot of things better.
